Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Naqvi of the Lahore High Court will today (Wednesday) hold a preliminary hearing of a petition challenging the alleged detention of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Maulana Khadim Hussain Rizvi.
Rizvi’s son Saad Rizvi and TLP patron-in-chief Pir Afzal Qadri had moved the petition. A TLP member, Syed Zafar Hussain Gillani, had also moved a petition against the alleged detention of his leaders through a habeas corpus petition. The counsel for the petit
ioner stated that police trespassed into
the houses of Khadim Rizvi a
nd arrested him with other TLP leaders. He stated that all the d
etainees were shifted to undisclosed places. He said that the Home Department and police, despite repeated requests, had not issued any grounds for detention and were also not disclosing about their whereabouts. He stated that no case or complaint was lodg
ed against the TLP leaders so far. He further stated that they all were d
etained without any prior notification and without giving any opportunity of hearing, which was a violation of fundamental rights guaranteed in constitution. He stated that there were strong apprehensions that the government authorities would physically torture the d
etainees. He requested the court to get these leaders recovered from what he described as “unlawful custody” of the government and also declare their detention null and void.
